It is one of the best dramas I’ve seen this year. Let’s start with the obvious: Zhao Liying with her husband Feng Shao Feng as lead actors, there couldn’t have been a better choice than these two especially because they are a pair in real life. She is my favourite Chinese actress and there is so many reasons to that, I don’t even know where to start. She is pretty, low-key, and she is talented. I have yet to see all her dramas but from where I stand, I’ve never been disappointed, she always lives up to my expectations. When it comes to her hubby, it was the first drama that I’ve seen of him so I can’t really judge so I will stick to the wonderful and indescriptible chemistry that they both share onscreen, it’s beyond compare. I will go as far as to say that they can be a match for Yang Mi and Mark Chao in Eternal Love. It was a mind-blowing performance and I just can’t wait to see more of them in the future…

Now, let’s discuss the story drama itself… Ming Lan is a young woman, pretty, Intelligent, compassionate, she has qualities that we would wish for our daughters or even for ourselves. In fact, these qualities will keep her alive as she lives in a complicated family. Her father has several wives, she has two sisters and two brothers, two stepmothers but what happens when the father favours one of his wives and neglects the others ? Well, the mother of Ming Lan loses her life while giving birth to the latter’s little brother. Because of the father’s carelessness, one of the father’s wives, the most favoured one, succeeds in delaying the doctor who is supposed to help Ming Lan’s mother with the delivery. Gu Tingye, who will later become her husband helps her through the whole process, from trying to find a doctor to her life after her mother’s death. After this tragedy, she goes to live with her grandmother who protects her with her life and without whom she wouldn’t have been able to survive. Jealousy, envy, trials and tribulations is what she faces on a daily basis. She never gives up and we can appreciate the resilience of her spirit in the face of adversity.

I don’t want to spoil the drama so I let you watch it on kissasian.com to know what’s happening next… This story reminded me a lot of my own story, the things I’ve been through and how I came to understand that sometimes it is necessary to bend to whatever situation that comes to you. You bend but you don’t break, NEVER. What doesn’t kill you makes you even stronger. The pain that we feel is there to teach us something, to help us grow and overcome what’s to come. I find an inspiration in the character of Ming Lan and I want to thank Chinese Producers for always telling the best stories, stories that help people like me see that even though this World is fucked up, there is still a Conscience that still manifests itself  to teach and to show us the Power within ourselves…
